ADVANCE double victory in the X-Alps 2015

Chrigel Maurer wins the X-Alps for the fourth time in a row, and Rookie Sebastian Huber crowns his first participation with a sensational second place. In addition, the OMEGA XALPS is a wing which has fulfilled all our demands, helped along by the XALPS custom version of the LIGHTNESS 2 - the perfect harness for such an adventure.

Now it’s official: The “Eagle of Adelboden” has successfully defended his title. After a sensational adventure race over 1038 km from Salzburg to Monaco the Swiss superpilot takes the chequered flag and can step aside from the task of showing the way to the Côte d’ Azur.

And yet this year was much different from 2013. Close on Chrigel’s heels followed Sebastian Huber, the second ADVANCE pilot. A massive challenge confronted Sebastian: he has only flown the paraglider since 2008, and is an X-Alps first-timer. But ADVANCE were aware of Sebastian’s potential early on, and took him on board from the beginning of X-Alps preparations. Even so, his exceptional abilities amazed even the ADVANCE Team on a daily basis. In fact he has achieved a virtuoso performance in withstanding the enormous pressures of the event, and leaving behind the entire remaining field of far more experienced X-Alps pilots.

I would describe myself as someone who is rather reserved, but can still see my objectives through.

Alongside their own performances, both pilots were able to build on the strengths of the third winner: the OMEGA XALPS. Specifically developed for the event, this wing impressively demonstrated its strengths. In the (from time to time) challenging weather conditions it provided the necessary simplicity and safety and, at the same time, made high average speeds possible. Its light weight and small packed volume made it comfortable to carry when hiking was required. Not to be overlooked we also have the contribution of the sensationally low weight of the LIGHTNESS 2 X-Alps harness. All pilots can now enjoy the performance and light weight of this wing. The OMEGA XALPS is the first ADVANCE X-Alps wing to be available for sale as a Special Edition.

However, with all the celebrations about the of the two ADVANCE pilots' good results, we should like to remember Chrigel’s quote from the first of our X-Alps interviews: “We are not competing against each other. I don’t think for one moment that the other competitors see it differently. The X-Alps is a big adventure which one has to survive. And all participants are driven only by the motivation to get to goal. The sense of personal competition is secondary.

The X-Alps is a big adventure which one has to survive. And all participants are driven only by the motivation to get to goal. The sense of personal competition is secondary.

Chrigel Maurer

This spirit was especially demonstrated on day three when Sebastian and Chrigel flew together for a good distance, and walked side by side as well. In this sense we say: sincere congratulations to both pilots and their supporters from all of Team ADVANCE
