Team SUI1, Chrigel Maurer and Thomas Theurillat, has departed for Salzburg. Until they left the pair had kept their 2011strategy for the RedBull X-Alps under wraps.
In the RedBull X-Alps 2009 Chrigel and Thomas arrived first in Monaco after an impressive performance. The strategy for this year’s RedBull X-Alps was revealed at presentations in Grindelwald and Oerlikon: It consists of the 3 Ss, “souverän – sicher – schnell”, which loosely translates as superior – safe – and (s)fast“.
Well prepared and aware of their personal limits, both want to master the RedBull X-Alps 2011 in confident style, like two year ago. The key to success is managing extreme situations safely. Although ADVANCE have been working on a two-liner, Chrigel will fly a development of the ADVANCE three-liner Proto from 2009, clearly putting his money on safety. This three-liner Proto weighs less than 4 kg and has the best weight-for-performance in the race. It’s also nice to fly, and straightforward to take off and land in extreme conditions.
To win the race the team have to be fast. The biggest challenge is the balancing act between tiredness, decision-making, stress and recovery. If the Team SUI1 can cope with these there’s a good chance they will reach Monaco and return home fit and well.
