ALPHA 4 HIKE Walk & Fly test weekend 03.09.08 | 20 enthusiastic mountain flyers from the Chiemgau try out the new ADVANCE lightweight glider in its own element. Since the popular Walk & Fly testival try-out with the Flugschule Salzburg in August we’ve been able to run another very successful event in the Chiemgau, arranged in association with the Chiemsee Flying School and mountain and ski guide Sigi Ludwig. About 20 pilots assembled on the Friday evening in Aschau. After a short brieifng from mountain guide Sigi Ludwig those present were introduced to a little of the mysteries of paraglider development in general, and to those of the ALPHA 4 HIKE in particular. On the Saturday it was then possible to extensively try the new ADVANCE lightweight glider. The first item on the morning’s agenda proved to be a nice walk-up from Aschau up to the Hochfelln. In beautiful early autumn weather and exceptionally good thermals the pilots were able to make their first thermaling tests with the new glider. The takeoff behaviour especially impressed the group - conditions on the takeoff turning out to be somewhat demanding! The day finished with extremely interesting talks by Sigi Ludwig and Thomas Beyhl about new developments in mountain flying. On the Sunday the mountain flyers climbed the Hochgern from Unterwössen. The view from the top, taking in the Chiemsee, and a splendid wind coming up the takeoff were rewards enough for the sweaty climb up. The Hike could now show how easy it is to launch in straightforward conditions. Once again the pilots appeared blown away by the flying qualities and performance. After the regulation landing beer ceremony Sigi Ludwig was able to send a very happy troop of mountain flyers on their way homewards.
