ALPHA 4 HIKE: light - dynamic - good performance

28.04.08 | At the end of May ADVANCE will launch the HIKE. Based on the ALPHA 4 this is a lightweight, lower-end Intermediate for weight-conscious pilots.

As a lightweight version of the ALPHA 4 the HIKE suits the mountain walker, trekker, traveller or, quite simply, provides a genuine alternative for weight-sensitive pilots who prefer a lower-end intermediate glider.

The HIKE uses the new light Skytex 27 material and this provides an effective compromise between weight and lifespan ie. robustness. Compared with the normal ALPHA 4 the HIKE weight range has been raised by approx. 20 Kg, in effect providing the pilot with a smaller glider. The HIKE comes with specially coated lightweight lines, and both of these modifications result in easy, dynamic flying qualities (LTF 1-2), and a marked performance advantage – while leaving passive safety and simplicity unchanged. This also makes the glider of interest to experienced pilots.

The HIKE will be at our dealers, ready for testing, from the end of May. The HIKE comes in sizes 23 (up to 95 Kg takeoff weight, 3.9 Kg), 25 (up to 105 Kg takeoff weight, 4.2 Kg) and 28 (up to 125 Kg takeoff weight, 4.55 Kg), in two colour combinations. It has already passed the certification tests in all three sizes. Further information and technical data will follow in the course of the month.
