Mikhail Vavilov wins Lithuanian Open Accuracy competition 2009

06.03.09 | Success for Latvian Sigma pilot Mikhail Vavilov in the open event, “Trakai 2009”, at the Lithuanian FAI Cat 2 Accuracy Championships held on 14-16 February 2009.

ADVANCE do not just report on PWC and World Championship successes, and we are pleased to bring you this news of Mikhail Vavilov’s victory – under chilly conditions. To celebrate the February 16th anniversary of Lithuania’s return to independent status the national hanggliding and paragliding association held their FAI Cat 2 Accuracy contest in February. Who would like to fly in temperatures ranging from minus 7 to zero C on the warmest day? 64 pilots from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia thought it was a good idea, and entered the competition at Trakai, Lake Galves. ADVANCE was represented by four of the Latvians and, after the 8 tasks that were flown over the three days, Mikhail Vavilov, Sigma 6, of Team Adrenalin, won the open event with a total of only 311 points. 2nd, with 427, was Tadas Sidaravicius who becomes Lithuanian champion, and Jolanata Romanenkof won the women’s national title.

We are always pleased to hear of successful pilots from this part of the world, and would like to congratulate all those who took part. It is possible that the distances flown were not the same as the PWC, but we are sure that the fun and finishing party level (to warm up) were at least as high.
