It was possible to fly a task at Fiesch on the Thursday and the Sunday. Conditions for the first round turned out to be good despite a forecasted mega-inversion, although on the Sunday things were rather weak and slow-moving. The racing however proved to be exciting right up to the finish. The first three stayed neck-and-neck - with only a few points between them they were hot on each others’ heels throughout. At the top of the final scoreboard could be read the names of ADVANCE pilots Andy Aebi, Chrigel Maurer, Michael Sigel and Stefan Schmoker. Gin pilot Anja Kroll won the women’s result.
The planned Swiss Championship in Flims this summer had to be postponed twice because of bad weather. From the 21st to 24th of August the contest was eventually run successfully in Wallis. 65 pilots assembled on the takeoff. A straightforward first task on the Thursday covered the 60 km from Kühboden to Münster, back to Riederalp with the goal at Fiesch. On Sunday the 70 km track lay via poor thermals past Riederfurka to the Ritzinger Alp and back. Because of the weak conditions and an early task deadline only 10 pilots made the Fiesch goal.
We sincerely congratulate all our high flyers!
