More ADVANCE success in the 2008 Russian Open
04.08.08 | The 2008 Russian Open Paragliding Championship ended on July 31st with Advance Omegas taking equal first and second places. Advance also won the manufacturers’ team prize with the help of Alexei Peregudov (RUS – Omega 7) who was fifth.
144 pilots from 14 countries, from as far away as Norway, Korea and
India, spent a week at Sopot, Bulgaria, dealing with difficult
conditions. After 4 days of bad weather contest flights began, but the
first task was cancelled because of a thunderstorm. The last two days
saw tasks of 65 and 70 kms completed in cloudy conditions, the first a
flatland route under 100% cloud, and the second a challenging one under
‘complicated’ cloud, during which 70% of the pilots landed before 30
kms. Advance team pilots Orlin Dimov (BUL) and Jin Oh Kim (KOR)
alternated first and second places, and ended the contest with equal
points. Both were flying Omega protos.
Orlin Dimov and Jin Oh are therefore joint 2008 Russian Open Champions, and Orlin Dimov Bulgarian Champion for 2008.
Our special congratulations go to Orlin and Jin Oh for their impressive
and consistent performances, and to all participating pilots, including
the other 13 pilots from Russia and Lithuania who flew Advance.
