A Worldcup home win for ADVANCE - on our doorstep

01.06.08 | Our team pilots managed a clean sweep at the Grindelwald (CH) PWC: Maurer won and the ADVANCE Team came first in the team rankings!

"The Worldcup in Grindelwald (CH) was strongly affected by bad weather: it was mostly wind or rain. Even so, thanks to super organisation, it was still possible to fly two tasks of 39 and 44 km on the Sunday and Friday", said  Chrigel Maurer at the end of the competition – the happy winner of the event: happy in particular because he’s done very little competition this year, but was able to win in Grindelwald - a couple of kilometres from his house. Chrigel made his mark on the event not just with this win, however. Just before the first task on the Sunday he also set a new infinity tumbling world record with an impressive acro feat of 198 continuous tumbles (as we already reported).

How much advantage did Chrigel have on his own turf ("I know every treetop in this valley")? That is difficult to say, he thought - often it turns out that good local knowledge at a competition isn’t necessarily a great advantage, because you tend to stick to your familiar tactics too strongly and allow other competitors to blast off on their own routes unchallenged.

This was not much in evidence in Grindelwald however, as far as our pilots were concerned. Andy Aebi, also an ADVANCE company test pilot, is now on the first place of the PWC General Ranking, Stefan Schmocker is 4th, Jeremie Lager 8th. It was, naturally, an especial pleasure for us that both our test pilots, Maurer and Aebi, together with Dorothea Stichelmair and Stefan Schmoker, succeeded in winning the team result for ADVANCE.
