ADVANCE pilots finish 1st and 2nd in the Pre-PWC in Greece
03.07.08 | Orlin DIMOV of Bulgaria won the competition, followed by Greek pilot Slawomir Matras, both flying their OMEGA protos.
150 contest pilots and a similar number of ‘fun’ pilots were present at the Aioleia 2008 competition.
The weather conditions were almost perfect, and that allowed for a total of 3 competition days. One day was cancelled due to stormy weather, after the pilots had been flying for 85 minutes. The racing days provided strong thermals and high cloud bases and racing was fast as a result, with more than 45% of the pilots in goal.
The first task was 70km, the second 42km due to a stormy weather forecast, and the third 60 km. One task was cancelled after 85 minutes of racing, and did not count in the results.
The organization was excellent in every respect (pilots’ retrieval, rescue team, transportation etc). There were no serious incidents and the ones that did happen are not worth mentioning. Freedom School of Paragliding, together with Advance, sponsored the competition and gave gifts and memorabilia to all the winning pilots. After 6 successful years of holding competition events, the area of Drama and the local air-sports club proved worthy of holding and organizing such an event, and we sincerely hope to host the official PWC racing event in 2009 with the same success.
