Red Bull XAlps - the race is over...
15.08.05 | Urs Loetscher completed the “hardest” paragliding competition using an ADVANCE SIGMA 6. He placed second in the competition, reaching Monaco just 24 hours after Alex Hofer’s victorious win.
After a 13-day battle, ADVANCE pilot, Urs Loetscher claimed second place in this year’s XAlps. Loetscher came in after first place finisher Alex Hofer (12 days) and before Kasper Henny (14 days). A further ADVANCE pilot, Helmut (“Heli”) Eichholzer claimed fourth place. ADVANCE congratulates all participants for their outstanding performances! The goal of the Red Bull XAlps, the hardest paragliding competition in the world is to cover a 790 km course that begins in the Dachstein mountain range in Austria and ends in Monaco. Competitors are granted the decision to fly and/or trek/hike the course based on weather conditions. This year, many competitors had to trek and hike the course due to the bad flying conditions. ADVANCE provided our competing pilots with the utmost lightest paragliders produced especially for this competition. Heli Eichholzer flew with an OMEGA prototype, Ben Kovco flew with an OMEGA 6, and Urs Loetscher with a SIGMA 6. These gliders were developed and manufactured using the lightest material available. As a result, our development department has indeed gained further promising insights, which will inevitably influence ADVANCE’S series production in the future.
