First ADVANCE successes early in this year’s World Cup season
10.05.08 | Stefan Schmocker finished third for ADVANCE at the first of this season’s World Cup events near Rome: Andy Aebi also won two tasks.
The first World Cup of the 2008 season took place in Italy at Poggio Bustone near Rome. After four valid tasks of between 52 and 113 km ADVANCE team pilot Stefan Schmocker flew his OMEGA into third place. KIM Jinoh from Korea, the second best ADVANCE pilot, finished ninth. As winner of the event Slovenian Urban Valic has made a good start, followed by his compatriot Primoz Podobnik.
Andy Aebi, last season’s rising star, managed to win two of the tasks in Italy, and even shared one of them with Heli Eichholzer, also from Team ADVANCE. Thanks to a discarded result Aebi is already in third place in the World Cup total rankings.
Chrigel Maurer, doyen of World Cup winners, wasn’t one of the party this time. Following his third overall win in a row (2005, 2006, 2007) Chrigel will only fly in some selected World Cup rounds this season, the first being the next PWC event in Grindelwald from 24th to 31st of May - on his home turf. We are eager to see whether our team pilots can make the most of their home advantage in the Berner Oberland. What is certain is that they will be going fast – weather permitting.
