ADVANCE at the RedBull X-Alps 2011 with Team SUI1

11.07.11 | ADVANCE is prominently represented at the RedBull X-Alps 2011 by Chrigel Maurer and Thomas Theurillat. The pair convincingly won the 2009 race, and can be counted among the 2011 favourites.

Team SUI 1’s X-Alps equipment is ready. For his glider World Cup winner Chrigel Maurer is relying on a continued development of the ADVANCE 2009 X-Alps wing.

Light weight, safety and suitably straightforward handling were crucial factors in this decision: the three-liner proto weighs less than 4 kg and has the best weight-for-performance ratio in the race. In addition it is pleasant to fly, and easy to take off and land even under the most extreme conditions. Although ADVANCE has also been working on the  2-Line concept, the recent accidents have again redirected focus on handling and safety.
Chrigel is putting his trust in the landmark ADVANCE LIGHTNESS harness. Compared with 2009 the 2011 harness and rucksack prototypes are lighter by 400 gm. Together they weigh only 1.6 kg. As well as SUI1 other athletes will be depending on the ADVANCE LIGHTNESS.

ADVANCE will be running day-to-day reports about the X-Alps on this website, from the perspective of Chrigel and Thomas.
