Chrigel Maurer - winner at the PWC in Slovenia

11.09.06 | Chrigel Maurer is the clear winner in the penultimate PWC round this season and maintains his overall lead. Karin Appenzeller takes the lead in the Overall Women’s Results.

After the two competitions in Austria and Switzerland with only one valid task, the pilots were very keen to fly in good conditions in Slovenia.  In Kobarid it was possible to fly four tasks, and we are very proud that the resulting flights put the two ADVANCE Team Pilots Chrigel Maurer and Karin Appenzeller in positions at the top of the overall results tables.

With good weather on Sunday 3rd September, a 51km task was set and most of the 125 pilots managed to reach goal in Kobarid.  Monday’s task was cancelled with overcast skies and bad weather, but conditions improved on Tuesday for a 105km task.  Only nine pilots reached goal – gathering important points for the overall results for this event.  Wednesday’s and Thursday’s tasks were 70km and 73km respectively.  Chrigel won the former task six minutes ahead of the following pilots, thereby increasing his lead in both this competition and in the overall PWC ranking. Chrigel’s girlfriend Karin Appenzeller achieved second place on the ladies side, enabling her to take the lead in the PWC Women’s overall results.

Absent for the Slovenia tasks were Ewa Wisnierska and Andy Aebi.  Ewa unfortunately hurt herself on a rough landing in Fiesch; Andy Aebi has learnt the hard way that waterslides in swimming pools can be dangerous places!  We wish both athletes a speedy recovery and all the best for the last PWC in La Reunion!
